[Interview] Ana, project manager

Could you introduce yourself

I am industrial engineer, studied in Spain and wrote the final project in Berlin.

In 2012 I moved to Munich where I started working in the design of headlamps for BMW. After 2 years, I wanted to continue developing my career and when I was looking for a new job, I received a very enthusiastic call from the MCA-recruiter. The first interviews with the business managers were very dynamic, interesting and so persuasive that since 2015 I am working at MCA. From the first moment I became the impression that it was then a young company in Munich but with a good position in the market.

Can you tell us about the project you are currently working on?

Currently I am working as project manager at AWTC- VIT (Vehicle Information Technology). We develop the infotainment and navigation systems for the Asian Market of Audi, VW, Porsche and Bentley.

In project management we make the coordination between the internal areas, such as development, testing, purchasing, sales, production and quality (in Japan, Belgium and Munich) and the technical departments of customers and suppliers. My main tasks are the planning and tracking of the hardware production in Belgium and the follow up of the technical milestones of the project.

What do you enjoy most about this project, and what have you learned so far?

I am the link to the costumer, and that is what I like the most, the interaction supplier-costumer. It allows me to know both sides of the industry and several companies at a time.

Besides, it is always interesting for me to work in an international environment.

With this project I achieved to become project manager and to broaden my knowledge in the automotive industry. Moreover, infotainment is a very topical issue nowadays.

Any advices for someone who would like to do the same career?

Industrial engineering has a lot of possibilities. Either you specialized in a field or not, you can work afterwards in many different departments and positions. If you like to work in a technical environment, for me, is the best option.

What I would always recommend is going abroad some time during the studies or the working life. It lets you know other countries, cultures and languages, makes you more open minded and you will learn how to solve situations that you will never imagine in your home country. That all influences your way of life and working.

What do you prefer about working with MCA?

From the beginning I have a good relationship with everyone in MCA. There is always a friendly and funny atmosphere and this is very important to me. I enjoy a lot in the afterworks, where I have the opportunity to meet and talk to other colleges that are working in other projects and clients.

I find also really good and interesting that with MCA you have opportunity to work in many different projects and know different areas of engineering and companies.

What brought you to work into the automotive industry? Was it a personal interest at first?

I was always interested in mechanical engineering but it is true that I had not a special interest in the automotive industry only. Nevertheless, I have to admit, that once I started working in this sector, I was soon hooked on it. I have already worked with four different products, in many different departments and with several suppliers and customers. It is an industry with a lot of possibilities and in continuous improvement.

Besides, here in Munich, it is an important and very big sector, with the presence of 2 of the most important German car manufacturers, BMW and Audi.

Could you describe a typical day at work?

Most of the time I am participating in meetings with the costumer as well as with the colleges from Japan or Belgium. Due to the time difference, we usually used the morning to have the meetings with Japan.

Another part of the time, is used to make all the administrative work (preparation of reports, presentations, filling documents, etc.). Apart from the regular and scheduled tasks always pop up urgent topics (claims, issues in the production…) so, there is no boring day at work.
